A strong collaboration with ARDESS architects evolved.
“Leather is an organic material that speaks to the senses and offers a long-lasting and aesthetic result. At ARDESS Architecture & Design, we value using this warm, unique, and tactile material in our interior projects—both in private homes and commercial spaces,” says partner at ARDESS Architecture & Design, Philip Brinch Sørensen, and continues: “In the furniture industry, where leather is part of the production, waste can reach up to 40 percent per hide. Minor variations in the leather are often perceived as imperfections and therefore discarded. The responsibility to reduce waste lies with everyone involved – as manufacturers, as designers, and as end users. For us, as advisors and space planners of commercial environments, we are committed to a vigilant approach to material use and reuse.”
“Since 1964, Søren Lund Møbler has upheld the tradition of furniture craftsmanship in Denmark. Their skilled upholsterers and seamstresses contribute to the production with a deep respect for their craft. Furniture with a strong heritage of quality passes through dedicated hands every day in this family-owned company in Central Jutland.
As architects and tenant advisors for larger companies and the development of new commercial headquarters, we are obliged to maintain a strong awareness of how raw materials are utilised in the products we specify. REDUCE / REUSE / RECYCLE are ambitions we consider essential. We design and plan many square metres each year, and especially within the large organisations we work with daily, we experience a shared awareness of this collective responsibility,” says Philip Brinch Sørensen, partner and architect at ARDESS Architecture & Design.
The offcuts from the very same piece of leather used by Søren Lund Møbler for BDO’s reception and lounge areas have therefore been repurposed for logo signage, placed throughout the 7,000 m² headquarters.
